How to uninstall and reinstall Silverlight on a Mac

When Silverlight becomes corrupt or misconfigured, reinstalling the plugin is often the easiest way to resolve any issues.

Uninstall the Silverlight plugin on Mac OS X:

  1. Copy and paste these instructions into a notepad application or word processor.
  2. Press COMMAND+OPTION+ESC and quit all open browsers. 
  3. Select the Finder icon from the dock at the bottom of the screen.
  4. Press COMMAND+Shift+G (shortcut for "Go to Folder...").
  5. Paste /Library/Application Support/Microsoft/PlayReady and press Enter.
  6. If the folder cannot be found, verify that you have administrative access.
  7. If the folder still does not exist, skip to step 8.
  8. Drag the file mspr.hds to your Trash.
  9. In Finder again, press Cmd+Shift+G (shortcut for "Go to Folder...").
  10. Paste /Library/Internet Plug-ins and press Enter.
  11. Drag Silverlight.plugin to your Trash.

Reinstall the Silverlight plugin:

  1. Open Philo in a Silverlight-supported browser.
  2. Go to Live and select any channel to play.
  3. Follow the instructions to reinstall Silverlight.
