Philo's origin

According to Philo’s founders, “Harvard didn’t offer cable TV service and the over-the-air signal was weak. We were TV fanatics who wanted to watch TV around campus, so we basically wrapped our room in foil and rigged up a server to stream TV to our laptops over the campus network.” The roommates created a prototype in their dorm room by using a basic TV adapter to pull digital video from an over-the-air antenna into an IP video stream. After extending this to work with satellite and cable programming, they launched a pilot lineup at Harvard in 2011. And with that, Philo was officially born.
